An exceptional, rare specimen of original early 20th-century desktop metalware, dating to circa 1910s–1920s (Late Edwardian / early Art Deco period). This heavy sand-cast solid brass piece features a highly detailed medieval knight guarding a castle gatehouse with cross-shaped arrow slits.
Uniquely engineered, the knight figure is built on a lower hinge mechanism that pivots forward smoothly. This allows it to function flawlessly as an expandable desk letter rack, mail holder, or architectural bookend. The reverse side showcases the authentic dark oxidation characteristic of early 1900s British foundry craftsmanship, while the exterior retains a rich aged patina with natural verdigris highlights.

  • Dimensions: 15cm (H) x 14cm (W) x 8cm (D)

Historical Note
This style of mechanical, figural desktop novelty was popularized during the Gothic and Medieval Revival movements by historic West Midlands and Birmingham brass foundries (such as Peerage, Pearson Page, and William Tonks & Sons), making it a highly collectible piece of vintage metalware.
