A mid-century Brutalist mixed-metal wall sculpture attributed to Hong Kong artist Stephen Chun, circa 1970s.
This large-scale statement piece showcases signature 1970s metalworking techniques. It features a multi-dimensional composition of hand-hammered copper, torch-cut brass fins, and textured elements layered over a heavy industrial brushed steel backing plate. The design balances geometric structures—including a tiered, organ-pipe arrangement—with heavily cratered biomorphic forms.
Chun studied fine art in Taipei during the 1960s before returning to Hong Kong, where his unique, raw industrial metalwork gained widespread global popularity, often distributed through venues like Gallery Hawaii. Because each of these pieces was individually hand-wrought, variations exist across productions, making every layout distinct.
The reverse features a paper inventory tag reading "Ref. No. R-102" and is mounted on a sturdy timber frame with heavy-duty hanging wire. It can be displayed horizontally or vertically. A spectacular structural artwork well-suited for any Mid-Century Modern or architectural interior style.
