An exceptional, highly collectable late 19th to early 20th-century industrial cooper's mallet. Clearly stamped by the maker "G. MORRISON" and incised with the historic pattern classification "14 L/S" (signifying a Size 14 barrel-work profile in a Long Shank/Shaft configuration).
Superbly crafted from exceptionally dense, tight-grained English oak or elm. This heavy-duty tool features thick iron reinforcement bands shrunk directly onto both ends of the barrel head, a classic feature designed to absorb the brutal force of driving iron hoops onto large trade casks without splitting the grain.
The mallet is in excellent antique condition, boasting a lovely old, honey-toned age patina with a rock-solid handle and head. Highly collectable, fully intact, and completely free of modern splits or cracks.
