This mechanically complete piece is cast from heavy-duty iron and showcases a prominent, untouched old patina that beautifully preserves its historical character. It features a unique scalloped decorative edge along the perimeter of the lid. The iron retains its original turned timber handle, a forward-mounted wooden-tipped latch, and a rear sliding draft door for airflow control. The lid opens smoothly on its original rear interlocking loop hinge. It shows honest, age-related wear from historical domestic use, with no structural cracks or damage.
