Authentic 1950s Commonwealth Oil Refineries (COR) "Energol" Oil Rack Sign
An exceptional piece of Australian motoring heritage. This is a genuine 1950s lithographed steel service station oil bottle rack sign, featuring the iconic full factory branding crisply printed along the bottom margin: "The Commonwealth Oil Refineries Ltd".
Produced during the short, highly collectible transitional window when the government-backed COR partnered with BP to roll out their revolutionary "Energol Visco-Static" motor oil.
Design & Utility:
Originally engineered as a display header plate bolted directly onto wire oil bottle racks on service station driveways. Today, its compact, freestanding dimensions make it a premier, highly versatile statement piece for collectors to style home bars, study shelves, office desks, or automotive garages without requiring heavy wall mounts.
Condition Report:
Excellent honest vintage condition. The sign retains its deep, vibrant factory racing green and yellow pigments with incredibly crisp typography. Displays organic edge weathering and authentic surface patination consistent with its 70-year age. The structural side edges feature clean machine-stamped folds, and all four original corner mounting eyelets remain completely intact. The reverse side carries its untouched industrial golden-zinc backing wash.
